Remembering that God’s ways are not our ways. We aren’t always going to be able to find scripture to support a certain position in war because God is the one who as it says in 1 Corinthians 13:12 “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
We just don’t know the whole story, but He does because He is the Beginning and the End. So we need to trust Him.
Jesus is teaching in the Sermon on the Mount that none of us in this world can measure up to His standard. This is because the 10 Commandments are a standard we cannot meet.
Personally or nationally we are unable to meet this standard; that’s why He provided the “hyperbolic nature of much of the Sermon on the Mount.” He is the only one who will be able to give us the peace and joy and ability to live this life, and attain His government that will meet His perfect standard. So we need to trust, repent, and look to Him to achieve any hope of attaining the Sermon on the Mount, personally or nationally. The only thing we can do in this life is look to His Word for direction in the way to live.
In regard to war and rumors of war; He knows.
And until He comes to set up His kingdom we can only pray to do our best that we are in His will, and yes, unfortunately, that means wars and rumors of wars.
We have the scriptures to read to show us of His sovereignty:
Psalm 2
Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together
against the LORD
and against his Anointed One.
"Let us break their chains," they say,
"and throw off their fetters."
The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
Then he rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
"I have installed my King
on Zion, my holy hill."
I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :
He said to me, "You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.
Ask of me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
You will rule them with an iron scepter ;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery."
Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear
and rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry
and you be destroyed in your way,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David's throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this.
2 John verse 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love.
